ll-SEC First-Team member at quarterback in 2005 as he passed for more than
3,000 yards and his for 21 touchdowns on almost 60 percent of his
attempts...Cutler did record nine interceptions, but those came from more
than 460 pass attempts and were the result of him trying too hard to lead his
Commodores on to victory...Holds many all-time Vanderbilt records, not the
least of which are for total offense (9,953 yards), passing offense (8,697
yards), touchdown passes (59), completions (710), and pass attempts
(1,242)...During the final three games of the 2005 regular season Cutler
produced 12 touchdowns, against only two interceptions...Averaged a
career-best 7.7 yards per pass attempt in 2004 as a junior and also completed
61 percent of his chances, which left him with a quarterback rating of 134.8
but he had only 10 passing scores to show for his efforts...Brought his gifts
to Vanderbilt from Santa Claus, Indiana, where few major colleges gave him a
second thought even though he was first-team all-state in basketball and was
also an honorable mention all-state shortstop when he hit over .400 as both a
junior and senior, all while maintaining a place in the National Honor
Society...Didn't get nearly the amount of press that other high-profile
signal-callers who were appearing in the national title game and winning
Heisman Trophies, but there's little doubt among experts that he has all the
tools and intangibles to make a huge impact right away in the NFL...May not
have the mobility that would make him an instant success at the next level,
and his mechanics could use a bit of refinement, but he has seen his stock
rise in a big way in the months leading up to the draft nonetheless.
